The number of sessions varies depending on the treatment area, your hair type, and growth cycle. Most clients see significant results in 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, but we’ll tailor the treatment schedule to your specific situation during your consultation.
Is laser hair removal at Carbon Skin Clinic painful?
Can laser hair removal work on all skin types and hair colors?
There are many hair removal options in the UK, but the most effective are lasers that target the hair follicle directly. IPL devices use broad-spectrum light and are generally less effective, especially since they're not suitable for all skin types. At our clinics, we use top-tier, medically graded laser technology: Alexandrite lasers for fair skin and Nd\:YAG lasers for darker tones. With extensive experience, we’ve found these lasers deliver highly effective results—reducing hair by up to 80% with minimal discomfort. Yes, you may see some results after your first laser hair removal session—typically, a reduction in hair growth and some shedding within 1–2 weeks. However, full results require multiple sessions (usually 6–8), as the treatment is most effective during the active growth phase of the hair cycle.
Typically, 6 to 8 sessions can reduce hair growth by up to 80%, but the number of sessions depends on the treatment area. For example, lower legs usually need around 8 sessions, while the face may require 16 to 30 or more. All areas will need occasional top-up sessions to maintain results.
After completing 8 sessions, you can book a free review so we can assess your progress and advise on how many additional sessions and top-ups you may need. Keep in mind, maintaining your results requires these top-up treatments.
If you currently wax, you must stop waxing or plucking at least four weeks before your first laser session. This is because waxing removes the hair from the follicle, and the laser needs the follicle to effectively target the hair root.
We recommend shaving instead during this time, as shaving only removes hair above the skin and leaves the follicle intact. Be sure to shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before each session so the laser can properly target the hair follicle without interference from surface hair.
